The ESOL Instructor at CAPHR’s English for New Americans (ENA) program will help the Program Manager establish and maintain ESOL classes in the greater Manchester area, and provide information to enhance the cultural adjustment of ENA students. The program is designed to teach English to non-native speakers and offer practical English for living and working in the community in order to become self-sufficient. The goal is to improve English skills with classes to help speak, listen, read, and write in English.
This is a part-time, in-person position located at the English for New Americans (ENA) office in Manchester, NH. Hours are Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
SUPERVISION: Works under the direct supervision of the ENA Program Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Provides supervision to Teacher Aides and volunteers.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach ESOL classes as determined by Program Manager.

Include health and wellness, civic and cultural adjustment information and activities (in collaboration with Program Manager).

Incorporate speaking, listening, reading and writing skills into all classes.

Keep accurate attendance records and initiate phone contact with students who are absent for significant periods of time.

Develop and implement lesson plans that address the principles of learning as applied to second language acquisition by students who may or may not be literate in their own languages and who are learning within the context of loss and trauma.

Supplement classroom textbooks, as necessary, with materials from other sources, which may include teacher-made materials, visual and auditory aids, and computer assisted learning.

Integrate and utilize the assistance of college and community volunteers in classroom instruction, particularly to support written and oral practice.

Assist college and community volunteers in becoming proficient in their work and in understanding ENA students. Evaluate performance of college volunteers at end of session.

Assist with the design and implementation of student evaluation measures, which may include pre/post testing of students, written journals, teacher-made self evaluations.

Assist with ongoing curriculum development and program evaluation in collaboration with other ENA staff.

Will maintain professional boundaries with all current, past, and prospective clients, and maintain the confidentiality of clients and staff, in accordance with CAPHR and NH Department of Education policy and procedure.

Abide by all CAPHR and Department of Education policies and procedures.

Present professional and positive image as a representative of CAPHR.

Responsible for having adequate knowledge of all CAPHR programs and will gather sufficient intake information to make referrals to other CAPHR programs which are beneficial to the client and his/her family.

Perform other related duties as required.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to relate and communicate well with people from varying cultures and with limited English ability; past experience working with English language learners a plus.

Ability to teach basic technology and adjust to a Zoom environment should it be necessary.

Willingness to integrate and manage college student service-learners and community volunteers is a must.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree and/or certification in TESOL, TEFL, Adult Ed., Reading, or related field, M.Ed. preferred.
- Experience working with English language learners and the agencies that serve them is preferred.
- Experience teaching at least one level. Levels in this program are beginner through advanced intermediate.
- For this position, advanced level teaching experience is preferred.
